And then--and then--there are no keys, there's no innkeep, there's nothing to tell them which rooms are open and which rooms are locked... so by the time Alisaie finally finds the door that opens for her, she's grumbling under her breath as she shoves it open.]

[Aaaaaaand there's somebody else in here. Well then. Alisaie looks at her, then at the single bed, then spreads her arms wide.]

I suppose I oughtn't be surprised to find that we're expected to share rooms with complete strangers. [And yet, she somehow is.] I apologize for barging in. You are...?

[ Nanaly hasn't been in here long; she just finished changing out of that weird mess of an outfit and into something more comfortable -- shorts and a sleeveless turtleneck crop top -- a few seconds ago. But even if she's hardly settled in yet, as far as she knew, that door was locked; so when it suddenly gets shoved open like that, her instinct is to immediately turn to face the potential threat and take a defensive stance--

--which she drops instantaneously when she gets a look (and listen) at who she's dealing with. Whoof, that fancy speech style is a lot, though. Pretty dramatic too, huh...

Her daemon also relaxes, though he gives Nanaly kind of a Look, which she returns with a small shrug before turning back to her apparent roommate with a smile. ]

Nanaly.

[ She holds out her hand to offer a handshake. ]

And don't worry about it, I didn't think to knock first either. So your coin opens this room too, huh?

[Shaking hands isn't super common where she's from, but Alisaie goes along with the gesture regardless.]

I'm Alisaie, and this is Taf. [Taf is in his tonberry form right now.] I expect you've just found yourself in this city, too?

[ You know, the knife and lantern are a little weird, but such is life with jrpg monsters designed in the 90s, she's not gonna question it too much. ]

Yep. Last thing I remember I was traveling with a few friends [ and Loni ]... then suddenly they're all gone and it's just me and Radheya here. [ He flicks his bushy tail at his name. ] At first I thought maybe this was just another version of the same world again, but it seems like we're all from completely different places.

Are we? [It's not quite new information, but more a confirmation of what she'd already suspected.] I was aware that there were other arrivals not of this world, but nobody I've spoken to so far specified exactly where they were from. Still, I had suspected as much.

[She's gonna just. Close the door, since she hadn't done that yet, and come further into the room.]

Though not all of us are from different worlds. My brother Alphinaud is here as well.

As far as I can tell, anyway. The continents of the world, the religion, the kinds of artes people can use... if none of that stuff matches up it's pretty safe to say they're not the same place, right?

[ There's a slight shift in her expression at the mention of a brother, though it's hard to pin down. ]

Oh yeah? That's pretty lucky. Is he older or younger?

We're twins.

[...He is.]

As for lucky, that depends on whether you like having your ear talked off. [She spreads her arms again, shaking her head.] Alphinaud could make conversation with a brick wall, should the mood strike him.

[And she loves him dearly, in spite of how she drags him.]

What are "artes"? I take it you don't mean painting or sculpting?

That keeps it lively, though, doesn't it? Sounds like it could be a lot worse.

[ She's sure the twin dynamic must be a little different from that of clearly defined older and younger siblings, but there's probably plenty about it that stays the same too. ]

Nah, it's a general term for any kind of special technique you use in battle, either magic or physical.

[Okay, you've got her there. A wry smile comes to her mouth.] It could be, I'll give you that.

We don't have that sort of catch-all, I'm afraid. One might study a given fighting style, but that encompasses a great many things. What's your style of choice?

[Making assumptions... but Nanaly said any special technique you use in battle, not that fighters use in battle, so... she feels relatively confident in making it.]

[ A fair and correct one! ]

I use a bow, mostly, but I do a few spells too. It feels more satisfying to hit a target with an arrow than with a splash of water, though.

[Oh, hell yes.]

I couldn't agree with you more. Simply standing back and casting magic from afar feels too removed from the battle for my liking.

[If she's gonna fight, she's gonna get her hands dirty.]

Though I admit, I imbue my rapier with aether more often than not.

[ Yeah!!

...But there's just kind of a blink at that last part. ]

[...ah. Goodness, how does she explain aether in a way that doesn't take a full week...]

Aether. It's a force that permeates our world and all living things. Utilized properly, one can use it to perform any number of feats, magical or no.

[She frowns slightly, considering all the nuances of even just those two sentences, then chuckles, glancing back to Nanaly.]

There's much more to it than that, but I'll spare you the details. Suffice it to say, Alphinaud and I spent years at the Studium learning the ins and outs of aetheric studies and manipulation, and I still don't know everything there is to know.

Ah, gotcha. Sorry, that's the name of a race of people in my world, so it kind of threw me off.

[ She is one of them, so it was a little weird there for a second. ]

That sounds a little like how we use the energy from lens, though, so I think I get the basic idea, at least. We use it for upgrading weapons and stuff too.

Really? [UH.] I can see why that might have been alarming.

What are lens? Surely you don't mean the glass type used in telescopes and glasses...?

[are they nerding out about magic and energy now? Huh. Unexpected.]

[ it'll be short lived because she's more of a jock than a nerd and i don't really understand lens lmfao but!!

She shakes her head. ]

Mm, it's some kind of mineral they say came from this asteroid that hit the world a long time ago. It's got a special kind of energy in it that we've used for all sorts of things -- that's how we're able to use magic, too, by drawing from that power. If you're looking to get into the nitty-gritty of how it actually works, though, I can't help much with that.

[that's fine Alisaie's nerd side really doesn't come out much anyway]

That's all right. While fascinating, there are other mysteries we should be expending our energy on.

[A general "we," not as in her and Nanaly specifically, but who knows if that nuance goes through I sure don't

Alisaie glances toward the bed.]

Do you see any problems with sharing? I suppose we could flip a coin for it, if you'd prefer... [She digs in her pouch and comes up with the coin they were all given, offering to flip.]

[So at some point on Monday after all of *gestures* that, Alisaie is going to try and track Nanaly down. Whenever she does, she'll approach and without any further preamble:]

I hope you won't mind, but I've told Alphinaud he could sleep on the floor in our room tonight. Apparently his flooded.

[ The kitchen's a pretty reliable place to find her, and that's probably where Alisaie will find her today a little before dinnertime, stirring a small pot of soup. ]

How'd that happen? He's not sharing a room with that pointy-toothed guy with the fish, right?

But sure, that's fine. The more the merrier. Does he have a dry pillow and stuff to bring, or did those get wet too?

[Alisaie's drawing a blank here. The who?]

He has a pillow. I mentioned hanging his linens to dry, but I can't say whether or not he actually did so. [Or whether they'll have dried at all, considering. The hotel...]

It's no problem. I'm glad you guys get to spend some time together.

[Waves a hand dismissively.]

We spend more than enough time together as it is. [And then she relents a little, because she knows nobody will believe her if she says she doesn't care.] But I can't very well leave him to sleep in the lobby, can I?

[ She laughs a little at that. ]

Yeah, I guess maybe it seems like that now.

[ Adjusting the heat on the burner... ]

And nope, I'm pretty sure inviting him over's exactly what a good sister would do.
