[RIP Marius, you would have loved this crabless beach...
Monika was taking a stroll down the beach to stretch her legs after being cooped up in the opera house for so long, though she slows to a stop once she notices Nanaly.]
Yeah, seriously. I wonder what even happened... like, did that guy specifically pick him out because he could tell he was an easy target, or was he just in the wrong place at the wrong time?
Oof, yeah, that's right... Just makes it worse. Taking out some enemy you don't know is one thing, but I don't get how someone could so casually do something like that to someone they know. Even if you're not friends, sharing the same space for a few days should count for something.
[ By this point it's clear that avoiding those stupid shards is a lot harder than it should be, so Nanaly is pretty much done worrying about them. She's out in the garden enjoying the sun -- it's almost a new week and who knows if she'll get this again in the next place -- and if she happens to come in contact with a shard while she's out there, then that's life.
Hm. Technically, this is kind of a boxed garden too, huh. ]
[Sometimes, you exchange one jamjar for another jamjar.
Monika frowns when the memory ends, lifting one hand to touch her forehead — right on the spot where those people had that strange lens embedded on their foreheads.]
[ Ah. She frowns a little too, just because she doesn't love how personal that last bit got, but... ]
The one Elraine wanted.
[ That answer is followed by sort of a displeased sigh. ]
It wasn't like that before, but she went back and changed the outcome of this war that was fought in our world a long time ago... and by doing that, she changed the whole course of history since then. All so everyone would devote themselves to the Goddess and live her vision of a happy life.
Oh, yeah, definitely. They weren't quite this bad in my time before she changed things, but it was still really messed up. People going by numbers instead of names and having everything provided for them so they never have to feel anything but that false happiness.
Pretty much. I mean, most of 'em chose it, aside from the kids born into it, and they think it's great. But I wouldn't call it living as a human. Not in any meaningful way, anyway.
No, I wouldn't either. I mean, isn't being allowed to make mistakes and earn your keep part of what makes people... well, people?
[As she says this, though, Monika's daemon takes the opportunity to plop down between the flowers — knocking another shard onto them and causing another memory to resurface. Whew!]
[PRESUMABLY they are allowed to bring food to the prisoners, so. Here's Monika with tea and some miscellaneous snacks. Just a little bit of everything because she wasn't sure what she likes.]
To be honest, I thought it might have been you for a little while. You know, because of the angels, not because you're untrustworthy or anything. But then you said you had nothing to do with it, so... I didn't vote for you. Still, I guess some of us were desperate enough to look for loopholes.
[She shakes her head, digressing.]
I don't know what will happen tomorrow. But do you have any special requests?
week 0, post trial

... Are you getting some fresh air, too?
looks at my typo......... looks away
[ Especially with a dead guy hanging from the scaffolding and bleeding on everything... ]
Gets me kind of antsy after a while, I guess.
tbf i didn't even notice until you pointed it out LNLSDKJ
[The dead guy hanging from the scaffolding was A Surprise. She sighs, stretching her arms a little.]
Poor Marius... I can't believe that happened.

[She trails off for a moment, furrowing her eyebrows.]
I mean, I can't blame her for wanting to change the world. But isn't that kind of thing sort of... cultish?

Ah... Hey.

Hey... [She looks so sad, watching her.] I'm really sorry it turned out like this.

I mean, unless you were the real killer, it's not like it's your fault.
[ taking a sip ]
Like I said, I can't blame any of you for getting that conclusion from the evidence... even if it was a bunch of crap.
